To view more media from the conference, please visit: http://cddrl.fsi.stanford.edu/multimedia/povgov-conference-2015 ----Spe… Bio: Hector Castillo Berthier, PhD in sociology, is an investigator, musician, journalist, and specialist is the fields of urban issues related to waste management, La Merced and food supply in Mexico city, caciquism, social development, culture, youth and violence. He has authored a number of books and various articles published in national and international journals; he is also a regular columnist of the newspaper “Metro” and works in radio broadcasting. Hector is a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC) and of the Mexican National System of Investigator (SNI), and directs the organization “Circo Volador” (Flying Circus), an award-winning social platform that promotes arts and culture for youth from popular origins and seeks to find solutions for pressing urban issues in Mexico. Dr. Berthier currently conducts research in the Institute for Social Investigation at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where he also acts as the university’s coordinator for the unit on youth studies (UNESJUV). ----------- This presentation was presented during CDDRL's Program on Poverty and Governance's 2015 conference, "Educational and Entrepreneurial Initiatives to Support Youth in Places of Violence."
