Capitalism and Democracy
Program on Capitalism and Democracy
Exploring how capitalism interacts with democratic institutions
What We Do
The Program on Capitalism and Democracy is a collaboration between the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law (CDDRL) and the Corporations and Society Initiative (CASI) at the Stanford Graduate School of Business to address the crisis in democratic capitalism, marked by public disaffection with the system and perceived market and political failures. The program explores the interaction between the forces of capitalism, various forms of inequality and injustice, and the erosion of democratic institutions, seeking ways to promote the proper balance of power, truth, and accountability. Through research, policy development, speakers, and workshops, the program empowers participants to engage in identifying key issues and revitalizing democracies as they attempt to ensure that capitalism serves society.
