Biography

Jason Luo is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University. His book-style dissertation project investigates the political economy of information manipulation within autocratic systems in the digital age. To this end, Luo has collected and cleaned a multi-terabyte dataset that contains the most extensive information to date on China's government procurement activities.

Broadly, Luo's research interests lie at the intersection of information politics, authoritarian institutions, and Chinese political economy. Before attending graduate school, he earned an M.A. in East Asian Studies from Stanford University and a B.A. in International Political Economy from Peking University. On the side, Luo is active in people-to-people exchanges between the U.S. and China.
