Research Interests

20th century international history, American foreign policy, and East Asia


Dayna Barnes completed her PhD in International History at the London School of Economics (LSE), where she also received an MSc in the Theory and History of International Relations. She recently served as Pinto Postdoctoral Fellow at LSE IDEAS and Kiriyama Fellow at the University of San Francisco Center for Asia Pacific Studies. Dr Barnes has also held positions at the University of Winchester, Tokyo University, and San Francisco State University. Her first book, Architects of Occupation: American Experts and the Planning for Postwar Japan, will be published with Cornell University Press in March 2017.
